Functional Pellets

Multiparticulate ingredient units engineered for a defined release or protection profile: immediate release, four- and eight-hour sustained release, taste- and odour-masked, enteric, and stability-protected. Populations intended for blending are developed to a matched 500–850 µm size range for capsule-fill uniformity and segregation control.

Formulator’s buyer guide

Functional pellets: choosing release, protection and handling profiles

Functional pellets are multiparticulate ingredients designed around a defined release, protection or sensory objective. NexaGens supplies immediate-release, sustained-release, enteric, stability-protected, and taste- or odour-masked options for B2B formulation evaluation.

Selection should begin with the required release behaviour and finished dosage form. The coating system, active loading, particle-size target, process conditions and evidence package must be assessed together; a pellet format alone does not demonstrate a particular performance result.

How should formulators choose a pellet release profile?

Choose the release profile from the intended site and timing of release: immediate release, sustained release over a defined period, or enteric and intestinal delivery.

Protected immediate-release pellets are not automatically sustained release, while taste masking does not by itself imply delayed release. Define the target profile first, then verify product-specific release or dissolution data under relevant test conditions.

Which functional problem can the pellet address?

The portfolio addresses controlled release, enteric protection, taste and odour masking, environmental stability and powder-handling requirements.

Match the technical objective to the active and dosage form. Sustained-release caffeine, enteric NADH or peppermint oil, taste-masked mineral and amino-acid pellets, and protected immediate-release actives require different validation approaches.

Which functional pellet formats are available?

Available formats include caffeine IR, SR-4 and SR-8; enteric NADH and peppermint oil; protected immediate-release astaxanthin and coenzyme Q10; and taste- or odour-masked ingredients.

The supplied technical workbook gives a 500–850 µm target for the pellet range, subject to the current finished-product specification. Review size distribution and blend compatibility for the intended capsule, sachet, tablet or other application before scale-up.

What evidence should buyers review for functional pellets?

Buyers should review assay, particle-size specification and product-specific release, dissolution, sensory or stability evidence according to the claimed function.

The core approval package should include the current technical data sheet, finished-product specification and batch Certificate of Analysis. Also request the applicable composition, microbiological, heavy-metals, allergen, GMO, storage and regulatory documents. Finished-product suitability and market compliance remain the customer’s responsibility.

Discuss your formulation requirement

Tell us the active, dosage form, target market, processing conditions, target release or protection profile and expected volume. We can help identify suitable evaluation materials and confirm the available technical documents.

Document titles and availability are based on the supplied product workbook. Current controlled versions are provided on request and remain subject to technical and quality review.
